FEAR OF DREAMING

Deep in our hearts and minds persist
unmentionables that in our waking hours,
are hidden behind vails of privacy
that shield them from ourselves and others...

The fears, desires and expectations,
the greed and lust and mutual distrust,
and things we do not even want to think of.
We learn to cope with them as best we can...

But in our dreams we do not seem to care,
about our images, our innocence our duties,
about the things we should or should not do,
the face we should or should not show...

we dream of hopes fulfilled or business lost,
of battles won, or threats of violent death,
of innocent love or selfish misdemeanor,
of flowers in bloom or gruesome beasts...

Why isn't there a force, a deeper conscience,
controlling our strange acts and feelings,
in those involuntary dreams, while stradling
the boundaries of hell and heaven?

We'll find God's Holy Spirit is a power,
immeasurably stronger than human conscience,
and He will guide us clean through every dream,
if only we will ask Him, earnestly...

Interesting and expressive.  I've often wondered, since dreams are involuntary, is it possible to sin in a dream?  For instance, I recently had a dream that I bit a girl on the neck.  Does that reveal a secret passion for her, or the book "Dracula" which I've been reading at bedtime.  Best I can figure is that the imaginary sins of dreams are but reflections of the conscious sins of daytime.

Willem,
I really like this poem...its very deep, and I like how it really makes the reader think about the meanings behind our dreams...it raises some very good questions and points.
very nice work. janet marie

Some things cannot be explained by verses that rhyme,
They are not measured by the commitment of time.
Some emotions run too deep to be described by words,
Forgiveness and understanding-
remain the most beautiful words ever heard.

Willem this was some deep thinking! I like this very much. God is the protector of all, including our dreams. Our spirit wars against our flesh, and when we sleep we cannot control the flesh and its thoughts. Though God can! It is funny that we don't think about these things during our sleep. The wordly things or how we should act. Very interesting thought here!

Vincent, no what we do in our dreams is not a sin. You know if you eat a sour pickle before bed time it cause bad dreams or what not. It could have been something you ate, or just that you had a certain someone on your mind, and watched a dracula movie or something. But that is not a sin, seeing as how we cannot control our dreams. We sin by going against the commmandments of God. By lusting or wanting in excessiveness. By holding other things, whatever they may be, above God, instead of holding Him first. Pray about your dreams and ask God to protect them. He shall!  Sweet dreams everyone!

Now you've done it Willem, I'll be pondering this all day.  Very well done.  I love the last part.  Prayer guides us through many a thing in peace.
