Generation To Generation

~*Marge Tindal*~

Hand to hand across the years
Bible passed through many tears
One must leave so another can share
the precious memories recorded there~

I've become the keeper of things
from generations of the past
Now it's time to pass the inheritance
so the thoughts will live at last~

From cedar chest keep, the instrument
that held her faith aloft
I pass it now to hands so new
whispering words so soft~

Delaney, this belonged to your Great Grandmother
though she left this earth before you came
I gift you now her Bible
inscribed with her own name~

May you find the faith to sustain you
that she did when she was here
I know she'd want you to have it
so cherish it my dear~

Know each time that you read it
your Great Grandmother read it first
She lived and breathed the Word of God
May it now quench your thirst~

Each day when you have need of it
open it and read His treasured word
Your faith will carry you far sweet child
and your Great Grandmother's voice will be heard ~

For she marked special passages
to lead you where you need to be
Blessed are they who follow Him
unto eternity~

Thank you, Bob~

Marge:  What an absolute treasure to be able to give Delaney.  Someday it will mean
the world to her. This is a really beautiful poem.

Thank you all very much for the touching comments.  I have no doubt that my mother's Bible will be treasured by Delaney as she grows in His love~

These are the years of giving while one can be around to see the benefits of sharing~

Marge,

Oh My Gosh.....  Isn't GOD Wonderful?  I am so honored to be just be a little itsy-bitsy part of this most tender occurrence.  What better gift can one pass down through the generations than that of a life lived for Christ?  What better gift could you give your little Delaney than a testimony of her Great Grandmother's Faith as found in the "marked passages" of her Bible....  My soul just glows in admiration for your acts of Love expressed here in your poem.  Again, thank you my poet friend for your continued uplifting words that have touched so many here through your gift of poetry.  GOD bless you and little Delaney with her new beautiful gift from GOD and generations past.  -Bob

Marge this is incredible, but when you think of the word of God how it never ends, Heaven and Earth shall pass away but the word of God will never die. There is no greater gift than this.

Marge~ This is so very loving.
We've a Bible in my extended family
and when we gather for family reunions
it is the first and last thing I hold in my hands.
To me it is God's gift that lives on forever, and the strongest tie that binds.
Your poetry warms my heart in so many ways.
Thank you for this.

Marge,
my Aunt Sue gave me my grandma's bible, and when she passed away, I had to fill that in on a page she had started that has the births, deaths, and weddings listed. It broke my heart to fill that in. I am the keeper of things old in my family. Someday, that bible will be mine to pass along. Thank you for this, I know you know

This brought tears to my eyes, Marge... There's so much joy and hope in the simple act of passing something precious along... so much sadness that the original owner can't be here... and so much love, binding the generations together. Beautiful!
