I'll never forget as we fished by the sea It was just my brother Andrew and me We met this man, Jesus, from Galilee He said, "Follow me, I'll make you fishers of men So we left our nets quickly to follow him We soon met James and his brother John They had been mending their nets since dawn So Jesus called out to the boat they were in And they left their father quickly to follow Him We would soon see things that were hard to believe Demon possessed men He could quickly relieve At a wedding in Cana He turned water to wine It was becoming clear our Lord was Divine We watched with five fish, the thousands He fed He called Lazarus to life, even tho he'd been dead He bid me to come and on water I walked We gazed in awe on the mount as He talked with Moses, Elijah, those prophets of old How much more of Messiah was left to be told We now realized this was no mortal man He was the Christ of God's redemptive plan We were blind to the fact that He’d die for us So when they came for Him, I put up a fuss I struck a servant and cut off his right ear But he was healed at once as the Master stood near I denied my Lord as they brought Him to trial Then I remembered He had foretold my denial I wept as they mocked Him, I was filled with shame Yet He forgave us all, casting no blame As followers we loved Him with all our heart We just weren't ready for Christ to depart But here we are now, four fishers of men Still proclaiming His word and following Him My name is Simon, called Peter, by Christ May I spread the Good News the rest of my life. A wonderful poem, Cheryl, very good rhyme and rhythm. Peter is one of my favorite Bible characters because he failed Christ even when he believed and knew He was the Messiah; and yet, Jesus forgave him, just as He forgives me when I fail Him. I love the scripture where the angel tells the two women to tell the disciples that Jesus has arisen from the dead and that He will meet them in Galilee. The angel added..."and tell Peter also"...I think the angel stressed to the women to tell Peter also so he would know he was forgiven. A beautiful poem, thanks for sharing. |

Humble Bee, Thanks so much for your reply. I too, think Peter's life is a wonderful example of second chances and grace. I love his outspoken manner, which often got him in trouble, but that was due to the passion with which he loved Christ. I think John was the beloved but Peter was the "go to" guy. Glad you enjoyed this. Cheryl |

His Poet, This is a delightful account of the miracles of Jesus Christ as seen through the eyes of His disciples and in particular Peter. I am also intrigued by Peter and His great fervency for the Lord. May we all be "fishers of men" as where called these four. -Bob |

Ahh a kindred spirit! I like it when poets take on the mantle of the first person. The responsibility becomes larger, more challenging and the benefit is a more succinct understanding of the subject. When mixed in a poem the result is a clearer understanding of the situation/subject. Well done cheryl, i liked it. |
