Today, just as commumion was being passed and the gentle music of the piano was floating about the sanctuary, a siren began to blare outside. The first poem ensued from that moment. The second was written during the sermon by Pastor Jim Simpson. In Communion, Do We Gather “Let us praise God together...” floats about us soothing our hearts, in the distance, a siren slices through our peace rings urgency in our communion we are called to pray, fervently. having allowed our spirit its attention the tones again soothe “This s My body, eat. This is My blood, drink. This is My will, confess obedient love.” The siren gives way, now, to angelic chords. Chords that carry our pleas heavenward. Our minds return, our hearts, in tandem, to the peace of communion, a gathering with our Lord. ©January 6, 2002 “This One Thing I Do...” * “Amid the raveled ends” ** of minutes, hours, days; amid the fringe of incomplete tasks, I make my decision... not looking behind, rather, pressing on, toward the mark, the prize. urgency cries in volatile screams; its pock-marks riddle the important the siren intrudes momentum’s halted focus is daunted then, there, beside the road stalled in the gutter, our eyes are opened our vision more clear to the needs and blessings of others and ourselves, as well ©January 6, 2002 *scripture ref: Phillipians 3:13 **first line of sermon by Jim Simpson, 1/6/02 Considering the topic of the sermon it was almost as if he had planned for the siren to intrude upon our communion time. I'm thinking that Someone certainly did in order to drive the message home more profoundly. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

Thank you for sharing your beautiful Sunday thoughts. It is very true that the Siren would add to your communion and sermon in a way that your paster could not have done. For such an audible emergency can only remind us why we need Salvation with the body and blood of Christ. Living on earth without Christ is an emergency of the greatest magnitude. Our friends and neighbors need help, fast! Do we just silently turn our heads to this need? Or do we call for the sirens of our Creator? Call heaven's 911? Thank you for sharing! -Silver Streak Sharing God's Love through |

I love it when you write thusly. Well done, Virginia. Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. |

Living on the west coast as you are, we are frequented by earthquakes and I recall a time during a church service when an earthquake hit and blacked out the lights. Needless to say the church was certainly moved ... (And some say that the church has lost contact with the outside world. ![]() |

VAS....Very creative and enlightening poem. Even in the midst of the hustle bustle of the world we can commune with God...as this poem so adeptly shows us. ***Ivy Rose |

Virginia, This is the first of your work I've read but it was lovely. I love knowing that the discord and distractions of life can be overcome with a peace that passes all understanding when we commune with our God. Cheryl |
