BORN ANEW

The night was still, clouds hung unmoved,
as miles of sea rolled to the shore
Its swells like babies rocked in arms
held safe beyond life’s artful reach.

“Ahoy”, the captain called “ahoy”
but years don’t stop or hear the call
and there behind the boat of you
lies all you hoped and wished to be.

Left behind the march of time
their feeble cries strike cords of woe
but shipwrecked back on rocks of past
with lonely hearts they die forlorn.

A treasure!  How we dive to find
recall of what we were before
a Merlin king or mermaid fair
a lover true when life was new.

The shell of us someone will find
among their thoughts and memories
a little chipped, the edges worn,
the pearls, our souls, unharmed by storms.

We are not wishes, hopes and dreams
or what has gone to rest in past
but God’s creation born anew
each time we whisper, “I love you”!!

Thank you for your poem of reflection and sure promise that all things will work out together for good. As your poem suggests, I do believe that we all have a pearl (a treasure) of great value deep within that requires much cultivatiion and exploration for us to uncover. Thank you, Bob. It has been a pleasure sharing here during the short time of my membership. Deep within is where all the glory lies - we know it, we feel it, but most times ignore it till one day it hits us in the face and we say, "wow!"
