Let Captives Pray

Are you worshipped in the pantheon of deities
the fickle world has raised unto itself?
Are you satisfied with ancillary honors
as one of many trophies on a shelf?
Will you share these dying laurels
that are tossed about the Earth?
By anything created
will the Maker have his worth?

If you say “No”,  humanity will charge you
with austerity, gross arrogance, and pride,
murmuring the gate was set too narrow
denying that your mercies have been wide.
But arguments are silenced
and made foolish at the cross.
A love cannot be censured
for enduring such a loss.

If you say “Yes”, a crown is swiftly granted.
A bread king they’ve imagined you before.
An evanescent fame and token scepter
await you on the Galilean shore.
But waters there are shallow
as the masses patronize.
Knowing what’s inside of man
to not commit is wise.

By the rivers there in Babylon they covet
with tingling ears whichever novel song
might entertain their superficial interest.
But faddish charm can never hold for long.
Harps will be retrieved no doubt
to herald Zion’s praise.
But hanging on a tree they’re telling
first the Father’s ways.

Restore your scattered people to Jerusalem
the “Mother of us all” who rears your fame.
Dreams of you in spheres of competition
must die with the resurgence of your name.
Let the “Unknown God” at last be known
that his altar may not stay
among the shrines of common “lords”.
For such let captives pray.

A truly magnificent poetic score that tells of all that is as nothing and His Love is all we need! Bravo! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
