Do Not Disturb

Do not take for my benefit
One single cell of life
To cure me of a dreadful ill
That causes so much strife

Do not borrow from the living
Or the ones who’s death is fate
I’ll not reap from such a “miracle”
A cure that came too late

For birth itself is miracle
Those lost along the road
Will not be used to ease my pain
Or lighten up my load

To make laws for the Maker
To disturb the natural flow
To intrude in God’s own planning
Is a right He didn’t bestow

To make of life experiments
To make a human twin
Are subjects that disturb the soul
And stir the peace within

For we don’t know where to draw the lines
We don’t know how to end
And respect for life will disappear
Beyond a future bend

I will keep my eye on rainbows
I will wait my future chance
That some day a drug will cure me
And I'll twirl you in a dance

Elizabeth Santos

Ah, who is to say what we should, should not do...this cloning and man-handling of DNA and the ultimate hand of God is something else, and quite controversial...

but as always, your poetic forms brings the news of life to us as we try to take it all in...

well done, our Lady Santos...

We must be ever so watchful of the slippery slide these 'miracles' can put us on.  No one wants to experience or see suffering but that doesn't make 'Kevorkianism' right, either.  Your lines are well written. Thanks.

Sunshine. Thank you for responding to this poem.I always value your comments
Yes this is a very controversial subject, but it's not vague to me. As you know, my poem is not meant to be controversial, but only how I feel as a patient who could benefit from certain kinds of research and discoveries by means which I don't want for ME.I'll just hang out and wait for a different kind of cure, which I know is coming within the next 9 years (Yipee!)or so, and they are working on one to be released soon which will slow down the progression of neurological diseases (Yes!)
THank you so much

Rae, THanks for your comments. It seems there are so many slippery slopes theses days
Take care
Liz

I enjoyed reading your convictions in splended poetic form. I too, agree.

not sure what to say to this one.. I really don't know how I would react in the same situation..
You are an amazing person, Liz.. and I respect you greatly for your beautiful, and unselfish views.. - and this is a beautiful poem, which I'm saving in my library..

It's nice to share - kiss someone when you have a cold.

I am sorry dear Elizabeth if you are ill, but I am not one to turn down advances that science gives us, as long as no one else is hurt by it.  Joyce    Love, Joyce

Oh Liz ~ What a well written piece of conviction, agreeing with Karilea and praying for you to have that dance.  Bless you, Bonnie

Thank you all for your thoughtful responses. This poem is only how I feel for ME. I appreciate all views. These are wierd ethical and moral dilemas of the day. I haven't gotten over freezing emryos yet, and then fighting over them in court. That's when you start putting a dollar amount on life, and hopefully that won't happen in these other situations.. Some of these things are foggy at best, and I try to stay out of the fog.
Thank you all for your input.
Take care, dear friends. I won't be around as much
Love
Liz
