Success is a desirable thing,
But not all success will happiness bring--
Not all success will bring out the best,
What is the nature of your success?

If it is measured by having plenty,
Gauged by one's wealth or surplus of money--
Thant might be the yard stick the worldly use,
But to such, rememberm God says, "You fools!"

If you find success in a senseless game,
Or in self-promotion, making you a name--
What have you accomplished of any worth?
Do you think that such justifies your birth?

If success is accomplished in some evil task,
Success may be yours, but your gain won't last--
In doing others harm, you have failed in living,
Taking for self, when you should have been giving!

Successful at what--is it worth your time,
If nothing is accomplished at the end of the line?
It may be impressive, and really put on a show,
But can you succeed if the LORD tells you, "NO!"

Seek your success in the things that do matter,
Not in the things that would self-flatter--
For if you're one truly seeking success,
Seek such in the LORD, to the things He'll
  say "YES!"

The most successful man I ever knew, was a carpenter and he lived the principles of Christianity on a daily basis. His life was spent serving others in any way he could. He also happened to be my father.

In my opinion, you have painted by your words a true image of our culture today which
has journeyed quite far from where those in the church had all things in common and were in need of nothing.  Statistically, less than 20% of church going people pay tithes which I believe reflects a fall in our culture's value system.  As a whole, I am certain western society has fallen far from that place where we truly can say in "God we trust"  but rather have become a people who are trusting in possessions. Very good writing.  -Bob

There is much sense in what you say DeLeeme.  I think that the children in our country are in trouble because their parents are so busy working to pay for possessions that they ae not getting the guidance they need.  Joyce

David; I just discovered this wise and wonderful poem! To me success can only be measured in how well we love, because the greater the messure of the love we give, measures how close we walk with our Lord.  Love, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
