Dear God

Dear God, please tell me what I’ve done
To warrant such distress
My heart is filled with sorrow
And my soul with helplessness
I thought my fears were all behind
My dues already paid
And now in shadows of the night
My heart is still afraid

Dear God, please tell me what I’ve done
To warrant so much joy
As laughter echoes off the walls
From just one little boy
You’ve given me four grandson’s now
Four times I have been blessed
With loving little hands and hearts
To hold in my caress

Dear God, would you explain to me
Why I must bear the weight
Of dreaded sorrow that befalls
My family of late
Is this just one more little test
To prove my faith in Thee
It’s hard for me to understand
Why you have chosen me

Dear God, I was just wondering
Why the gifts that I’m bestowed
Seem much more splendid than the ones
Who bear a greater load
My garden’s filled with floral hues
My table lacks no meal
My heart can barely hold the loving
Sentiments I feel

Dear God, if you could weigh my life
Upon Your heavenly scale
The truth of life would be displayed
In ways that never fail
The happiness outweighs the pain
Not in the numbers shown
But in the measured well of faith
How deep the soul has grown

The soul has neither weight nor breadth
God only ever measures depth

Magnificent Liz!  You ask questions that I have asked and I'm sure many others also. At the same time, being grateful for your blessings.  I think this is outstanding!

This is filled with wisdom.  We must all have our quota of sorrow and joy and God will do the measuring.  thank you Elizabeth.  Joyce

There were some really good thoughts in this poem.  And wonderfully written also.  God is to be thanked for your gift!

It reminded me also of a poem I wrote a while back called "Spectrums".  The last line says...

"He's calling out above all things
in life which bless or blight
that regardless of our spectrums
we might seek his saving light".

Thanks for sharing your heart.

Stephen.

Sometimes when our lives seem completely out of balance, we need to step back for another perspective - as we appreciate our blessings, the burdens seem to lighten. This is a beautiful poem filled with wisdom.

Oh Liz!
I dont even know what to say...He gives us so much in life and sometimes we just look right over it and see only the hardships...I love the way you put these together and showed how good can outweigh bad as long as we are trusting Him!   So beautiful!
