June 29th, 2001 A.D. was just another day
defined by your departure.

My mother is just another one of many
that made you in a graven image,

bought you to sell,
reduced you to their form of light,

fired you in clay from a mold
that splits and spews you out in increments.

They painted you white with a pearl glaze,
planted Christmas bulbs in your throat

to shine through the valley of the shadow of halls,
leading nightly potty breaks and refrigerator raids.

Now your eyes, with porcelain haze, follow
heretics and faithful alike.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
ceramic saviors never rust.

I sit beside you, awake, in a sleeping house,
hearing between air-conditioned sighs

universal words locked in your way,
your truth and the end of your life.

Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?
My god, my god, why hast thou forsaken me?

Oh, that's lovely... No seriously, I really liked the way you incorporate how everything has become more of an idol then a God, reminds me of when Jesus told Mary Magadeline, "don't hold on to me", which most people refer to, don't hold on to the Human Jesus, but the Jesus above.  Anyways, I don't know about that last stanza, if it fits with the overall idea, I'm still trying to figure that out... Like do you mean in the context that Jesus intended as Psalm 22, or just as it says...

Very illuminating.  I liked the detail of you sitting in the sleeping house with this porcelain nightlight of Jesus staring at you bringing to you the true meaning of His image.  I do believe this is quite an exageration of what Jesus meant when He stated that He is the light of the world.  I suppose this little light does offer some insight into a more glorious time to come when Heaven will have no need for a sun.  This was a great analogy.   Bob <><
