VAS has a challenge in the Poetry challenge forum asking us to use one of two phrases.  I chose the phrase 'Inclination to travel the wide path'.  I'm not thrilled with this one but VAS said I should transfer it over here ...

The Journey to Enlightenment

The journey to spiritual enlightenment,
Is often filled with hazards along the way,
Some face the challenges head on,
Others have the inclination to travel the wide path, and get sidetracked on their way.

I believe the true course to spiritual Nirvana,
Is the dangerous route,
So we have our trials, and therefore tribulations,
We grow stronger with the lessons life shoots.

Those that travel the wider path,
Not willing to experience life's ups and downs,
Never learn the true meanings of love, forgiveness and suffering,
And don't earn so many jewels for their heavenly crown.

They are taking the easy way out,
The lazy way if you will,
These lessons are meant to be learned,
As we struggle valiantly onward up the hill.

The highs and lows are filled with gifts,
For us to learn from, to cultivate ones' self,
Courage, compassion and forgiveness,
And at the end, if our heart and soul, have remained true, there is untold heavenly wealth.

Isis,

I believe that you have described the narrow path very well.  The more valiant choices that hold the greatest spiritual reward are seldom the most easy to make.  I commend you on your writing but even more on your wisdom expressed with your poem.  Very encouraging to think upon the final reward of reaching Heaven one day.  I  wrote a poem a while back that kinda touches, I believe, on the same subject that you have written.  Hope you like it.  Bob <><

So very true Lisa!

The highs and lows are filled with gifts,
For us to learn from, to cultivate ones' self,
Courage, compassion and forgiveness,
And at the end, if our heart and soul, have remained true, there is untold heavenly wealth.

I'd say it was a challenge well met.

This piece tells it like it is.  Those who try to escape via the easy way will be quite disappointed in the end.  Thank you for posting it.
