Lawd, help me resist dem tempts
That fly deyself at my soul.
Dat ole devil be knowing,
I'm making heaven my goal.

When he send a fine looking man
With everything in place,
Help me Lawd, cuz you know that
I be needing yo grace.

And whenever my flesh desire
To visit a joint,
Remind me of yo word
And it's power to anoint.

The way to destruction
Is so very, very wide.
I need you Lawd
To be my righteous guide.

Sometimes I get an incling
To dwell on sensuous thinking.
But then I cry out to you
To deliver me from my stinking.

Lawd, help me resist dem tempts
That fly deyself at my soul.
Dat ole devil be knowing,
I'm making heaven my goal.

The essences of all that is important in life...starts with you.

I love that southernese!

"Lawd, help me resist dem tempts
That fly deyself at my soul." ...

Simply brilliant!
and rurally charming.

Stephen.

Joyce,

Reminds me of the Southern Gospel preaching that I heard this weekend at Men's Camp.  We were given the analogy of a man who was trying to resist eating Sea's Candy.  How the devil kept bringing that candy to his attention and how he could spot a Sea's wrapper a mile away.... but the devil just kept working the man's weakness harder and harder... and even had folks buy some and sit right next to him and open it up and offer him a bite.... Whew... that ol' boy had it hard... convultions and all... but you know that preacher man wasn't just talking to us about Sea's Candy?  Right.  I loved your poem.  Bob <><
