There is a legend, ages old,
about the Easter lily told.
How in Gethsemane they grew,
so filled with pride, because they knew
that Jesus had to them referred,
as He was preaching Holy Word.
He said that even Solomon
was not arrayed as even one
of these white beauties growing there.
They're in a class beyond compare.

Upon the morning after He
had met His death and gone to be
resurrected from His tomb,
the lilies then began to bloom,
wherever drops of Jesus sweat
had fallen down, and grow there yet.
But in their sorrow at His pain,
They never raised their heads again
and even now, some trumpets grow
still canted to the earth below.

The Easter lily has always been a favorite of mine. I enjoyed your re-telling of this story.

I really like the point of view you took with this, concentrating on something that wasn't the main part of the story- the lilies.  You described them primarily and created the story of Christ as a background to them... it really brought an unusual feel to the piece.  I love it when poems do this!

Allan:  Thanks for reading this poem and I'm glad that you liked the format of it.  I like it too, when a poem takes a slightly different slant on a subject.
