Thank God For His Thorns

Jesus died on the cross
with thorns placed on his head
and if not for God's Grace
would all of us be dead.
When I think of the cross
and all that life discloses,
I thank God for His thorns
and praise Him for my roses.

If not for storms of life
would I see a rainbow's shine.
If not for my sorrows
would the joys of Christ be mine.
If not for my battles
would I know my journey's end.
If not for my enemies
would I know to call you friend.

No matter what life brings,
I've learned to stop and pray
giving thanks to God on high
for each blessing sent my way.
And even in midst of pain
with the struggle it imposes,
I thank God for His thorns
and praise Him for my roses.

My dear friend; Is not this incredibly beautiful poem absolute proof of the blessings that come from the pain? A poem inspired and written that will go forth in His Grace and bless others who need these words to heal and draw a little closer to Jesus. Not to mention, how very much they have blessed me today! Love, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

This entire poem is excellent. I will have to print it as a daily reminder to me of the sacrifice he made, to be able to give the gift of eternal life.
This one will be added to my library for sure.
Excellent work my friend!

Thanks to him we got roses. Beautifully said, trully inspired by our God.

A quarter of a century must pass, for the writer to understand what and why he writes.

Wonderful, lighthousebob, absolutely wonderful. And the last line...priceless. It rolls off the tongue and soothes the soul. A set of words to make one whole.

Bravo!

It is easy to go into the garden, prick a finger on a thorn of the rose and out of anger, destroy the beauty...

but if left alone...the pain subsides, and the beauty remains, as He intended...

thank you for this Bob...

Bob this is AWESOME!!

I loved these lines:

If not for storms of life
would I see a rainbow's shine.
If not for my sorrows
would the joys of Christ be mine.
If not for my battles
would I know my journey's end.
If not for my enemies
would I know to call you friend.

This is powerful and so full of truth! Very beautifully written!! Applause!

Lovely and sweet. It would surely make a great praise song. The flow is fine and the message is clear.
