I approach You with a heavy heart
That was so pure from the start
Then life took its rugged toll
Leaving my heart far from whole

It became broken in many places
For I have run countless races
Returning to You here and now
Before Your grace I slowly bow

Kneeling before You on bended knee
Praying that once again You’ll forgive me
For staining my heart with sin so vile
Purge from me evil’s terrible bile

Grant me the peace that I seek
So that I don’t have to be weak
Give me the strength of an ox
Help me at last lock this box

For it contains hurtful things
Sapping the joy that life can bring
Darkening the brightest day
Keeping divine love at bay

I lay my burdens at Your feet
Offering to You surrender sweet
Lord please hear my prayer
And lighten the burden that I bear

Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats

Ah, your humility so beautifully written here, touches my heart. He, of course, will heal and forgive, even before you asked, as He promised! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

LoneWolf~
Such sincerity in your voice -
He has taken the burden, dear.
Bless you.

WOW.... I felt like I was kneeling right beside you in prayer.  I really liked the line make me as strong as an ox.... I don't think that I have ever prayed that before, but hey there is a first for everything.  A very down to earth and heartfelt prayer.  Thank you for praying  and it was such a privilage to be praying with you. -Bob

Wonderful, wonderful. And at the end of the last stanza I can almost hear, "Consider it done," after all, Christ's last words as a human were, "It is finished."

Oh, how many times have we all run to his feet in sin's despair, only to be lifted up and restored...I can't thank Him enough for his endless grace and mercy, or you for this touching poem!
