As age comes upon me, creeping slowly over me.. like unto a mountain it comes-- Smothering out the fires of youth, the flames are gone--- The pleasures are gone that once were... The beauty has gone out of the old lights--- Ah yes, it is all still there... But the glow is gone! Oh yes, sure the music is still playing and a new generation is dancing to the same old song.. The song is new to their ears and exciting--- The old lights seem bright to their young eyes.. But to me the glitter has lost it's sparkle-- the bright lights have grown dim... I have danced myself out,but the beat goes on!!! Listen unto my words-I will tell you of a truth... The old pleasures are faded, no longer fulfilling-- No longer able to satisfy... But instead,in the place of,a new pleasure is being formed--- Somewhere deep down in the core of my earth... Is a small but certain glow of a new pleasure-- Like unto the first forming of an infant within it's mother's womb... There is a small glow, growing; as the warm glow of coals under a pile of ashes-- There long after the fire has gone out! A pleasure, a new pleasure, like unto a peace.. That exists seemingly on its' own-- Self supporting, yet glowing,it exists on its' own and alone... And the peace of it gives pleasure & is reassuring-- Could it be the beginning of the foundation of maturity?? Could it be my old self is like the bed of ashes??? Burned Out!! Yet the glow of a new ME is alive beneath the ashes of the old man!!! I am sure it probably can be..... Ashes will make soap that will make "clean"-- written 12-9-88 1:00 am James David Wisdom is a tree of Life to them that lay hold upon her: Proverbs 3:18 |

I send you a simple Amen. What a wonderful way of looking at it - i love the imagery of the ashes and a new flame - the old man has definitely died, and the new flame makes me think of passion and desire, which when directed toward God can alight your life into a bright and burning flame. Wow, i loved this poem!!! |

I really liked this! Lots of wisdom in these words. The flame may burn out of our flesh, but never our spirit! <*\\\>< Jesus is the reason for the season |

Wonderful analagy and much truth. The burning desires of youth, become the warm wisdom in age. |

***big sigh Well, I'm just a young pup still....like you described youth...But you do give me reason to look forward to "growing older and wiser".....I echo all the above comments about this being full of wisdom...as all your pieces usually are! I'm glad to see you sharing your wisdom....it helps us "younger" folks to look at things through "wiser" eyes.... - - - If I can just touch you once, then I feel I have accomplished what I am called to do...- - pFF |

Very thought provoking piece, here. "I have danced myself out, but the beat goes on!!!" I echo this statement, completely. The feelings I get when I read this are that of a burning, somewhat eternally youthful passion, trapped within an ailing body - almost growing stronger as the body, itself, grows weaker. The spirit, perhaps, seeking a solidity that will only be found exiting the physical. Wonderful work, James. Michael [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 12-16-1999).] |

A very nice poem that I am able to relate to. I would however leave out the second line, like unto a mountain it comes, doesn't seem to be needed there. The rest of the poem tells the story in beautiful terms. |

Well since others are 'echoing' the other statements, I must do the same. So I 'echo' what the others have said! ~*~ Hell is not a place of fire and a devil with a tail and horns. But a place of torment because the light of God is gone. To escape this, accept the blood of Jesus Christ! ~*~ |
