A CHRISTMAS TALE

Once upon a bright, shining star,
People gathered from near and far.
To celebrate in joy, to sing,
The birth of Him who would be King.
Showered with gifts, some must've thought
Their place in heaven could be bought.
For when he grew up commonplace,
Doubt soon lined many a man's face.

But through wisdom and peace, so pure,
His true love for us would endure.
As He taught, "Love one another",
Every man's, indeed, your brother.
He took with sinners that the word
Of God in heaven be offered,
And to show us the only way,
Was the true Christ, born Christmas day.

When He repealed the marketplace
In His Father's house for it's disgrace,
Religious leaders were distraught,
And so many began to plot...
A Way to have "Jesus" destroyed.
For the disrespect He deployed .
For what do you spurn paradise?
Thirty silver, the going price...

Jesus knew it would come to this,
In the garden a traitor's kiss.
A crown of thorns, a cloak of shame,
Disciples who'd deny His name
Guilty of no crime, yet convicted,
Death by crucifixion, inflicted.
Judas betrayed Him, I confess,
But I've seen it done for far less.

As even those who once embraced Him
Turned their backs,  further defaced Him.
As the believers that once praised Him
Upon a deceiver's cross raised Him.
As He asked forgiveness, even still,
For those of us blind to his will.
Is His Christmas gift now a loss?
Has Santa Claus replaced the cross?

This Christmas, if you wish to give,
Remember who gave all, that we may live.

"Has Santa Clause replaced the cross..."  WOW
What a statement !  How sad it is....it's so easy to get "wrapped up" in gift giving, and presents for the kids....it is easy to let the true meaning slip by...Thank you for reminding me in such a beautiful way.  I do, need to slow down, and enjoy the true reason for the season...God's love and mercy on us.  This was exquisitely written, dear!

Santa Claus, raindeer, shiny balls, glitter here and there.  Lights flashing, crowds pushing, shoving, and rushing around.  This picture is not what Christ wanted it to be.  When will the people see?  Thanks Michael for your poem.  It was a real eye opener.

Shine a light and darkness disappears.

Wow..I loved it!  Wht dove is right about this commercialism removing the real meaning, being heavy on my heart too.  I'm all for giftgiving, gatherings, trimmings etc. but not at the expense of minimizing Gods gift to us.

What is really ironic about that is that Santa Claus is based on the real St. Nicholas. I am trying to remember what Christmas is really about--the birth of Jesus--and less on presents and Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and whatever. Great poem Michael.

Michael; It is so good to see your gifted poetry once more here in spiritual. This poem is exquisite and so beautifully said. I am humbled by the truth of His eternal love and forgiveness.  Ellie

Wow!  I was looking for things to read aloud Christmas Eve, and I found a gem to outshine them all.  Merry Christmas Michael and Skyfyre.  God Bless.
