I'm not a tourist

I'm not a tourist just a friend
Passing through this place again
Take me not to fine hotel
A cot in back does just as well

I'd rather not go on a tour
I'd really rather do much more
I'd rather taste your cup of wine
Eat your fish and simply dine

I'd like to know where you are from
See your home and speak your tongue
Let me hear the music play
Let us dance til light of day

Leave museums full of their art
I'd rather know what's in your heart
Paint your life for me to see
Show me all the misery

Take me not to concert halls
Fine resorts or fancy balls
I'd rather sit upon the beach
And feel the moon within my reach

I'd like to walk on native feet
And feel the rhythm of the street
Let me run, if I don't fall
And dive right through the culture wall

I'll watch the fishers pull their net
Walk extra miles with no regret
I'll sit with artists on the street
And listen to the samba beat

Let me then compare my notes
With one who took the touring boat
Who's eyes had better things to see?
Who lived the best then, him or me?

My stars lady, you never cease to amaze me.
Tourist ! Indeed you are not !
But, in case you didn't know it ... you just took a tour of my heart.

Elizabeth, you have such a keen mind. You look at things from a perspective that I would never even imagine to!! And you express those thoughts so beautifully! It is always a pleasure to read your work!

Marge and Denise,
Isn't it past your bed time? When do you two ever sleep? And incidently Marge, How many poems do you write in a day?
Thank you both for your comments
Elizabeth

Elizabeth,
I feel as you do I surely do
Thats exactly what I did do.
But I stop my travel it made me sigh.
The things I saw did make me cry.
The world is coming to a pityful end
For too many are sitting their rear end.
Now I live in good gardens of whims
And try my best not to write bad poems. *L*

Well, yes, Elizabeth, it is, now that you mention it! I had completely lost track of all time, having such a good time reading all this fine poetry! Good night!
