Was asked to write a Christmas poem for a local nursing home. Here it is THE STAR ATOP THE CHRISTMAS TREE The star atop the Christmas tree Is kindly looking down at me And singing songs to calm my strife Reminding me about my life You, sitting there in parlor chair Are you fully well aware Of the beauty of your life? Of the wondrous gift of Light? Did you know you're not alone Lying in a nursing home? Did you know you still can fly On feathered bird up to the sky? For illness sure can take away Footsteps easy, words to say May have left you sore or blind In search of something you can't find But illness can't always take away Your heart, your spirit, light of day Memories, passions, faith and hope Beliefs and kindness, ways to cope While staring lonely at the wall Does your spirit then recall All the wonders in each day That illness can not take away? Do you recognize the Love Shining down from heaven above? Don't you feel within your heart All the love that God imparts? Your mind is welcome to explore Every little open door Your heart is rich with memories Of colored bird and summer breeze Your soul is still the very same Echoing your blessed name And calling you to fully live Giving all that you can give A friendly smile, a small embrace Looking someone in the face Compassion for your fellow man A little pat upon the hand Do you remember every day To thank the ones who lead your way? Have you forgotten how to give? Have you forgotten how to live? For God has made a plan for you A plan that you must follow through And He has given you a Child A Christmas present, meek and mild You, sitting there in parlor chair Are you fully well aware The meaning of the Christmas star? The person that you really are? Then sail to eagle's nesting place Feel the wind upon your face Recall the sound of mourning dove Remember well the one you love Walk back through old memories Jump again in autumn leaves Share a story, sing a tune Paint a sunrise, watch the moon Feel the joy in all you give Give your best in all you live May contentment fill your heart May you all your love impart This is the greatest gift by far The meaning of the Christmas star May all your blessings you recall Merry Christmas to you all Little star atop the tree You have shed your light on me Reminding me of all I can Reminding me of who I am Elizabeth Santos |

Simply beautiful, Elizabeth! Very touching! Sorry I missed your call last night. I stayed at my daughter's last night. Now I'm in work. I'll try to give you a call when I get home. I hope your Thanksgiving was just wonderful! By the way, when do you and Marge sleep?! I see you two have been posting through the night! Got to get back to work before my boss comes in and sees me playing on the internet! Bye! ------------------ Denise |

Elizabeth, The star that lights the christmas tree Is never ever far from me. I see it here and in the night, Each place for me a pure delight. Your poem encompasses so much I could not bring myself to touch. A queen that swings her words so fair You can but read and think and stare. |

Sy and Denise, two of my favorite poets, This is not good poetry It really wasn't meant to be But meant to say in a simple rhyme That isolation's in the mind And though you live within four walls There still is life, and still it calls And though you in a wheelchair live There's still so much that you can give Elizabeth Santos Thank you for your comments. I'll be waiting by the phone Denise. You're welcome to talk to me also, Sy. I'd love to hear the voices behind the poetry |

Elizabeth, I understand all you say But telephones are not my way. My wife is the jealous kind And her wrath can be most unkind. Her name is Isabel And she is both, my heaven and hell. |

Sy, You misunderstand my plea I want nothing more for me Than just a friend to listen to If you're my friend , then she is too I have nourished on your poetry Your mind, your spirit openly But once or twice in life we find We need some words , and now's my time But I am waiting for Denise I know my spirit she will ease AS well would all my poet friends Whose poetry has been a God send Without you all these days would be Much darker than they seem to me I've always been an optimist And nothing's ever altered this But just right now I need a hand And some one who would understand Then please my friend write me a rhyme To soothe my spirit, soothe my mind For I have lost control of me My body's not what it should be It's all that I can do to write It's all that I can do to fight I'm not depressed or under stress Just reeling in the helplessness So write some words to help me through And I'll be grateful if you do Your poetry makes my spirit soar You have a gift, so give me more Elizabeth |
