When I was just a little tyke, I had a red Schwinn Flyer bike, With monkey bars; banana seat, I was in heaven, my life complete. Upon each spoke, a baseball card, How "Mickey" hummed, when I rode hard, (Don't rub it in, because I know, today that card, is worth some dough.) I rode that bike, both day and night, Taped to the front, my Dad's flashlight, Free as the wind, no cares at all, Upon my bike, was ten feet tall. My bike's no more, and now I'm grown, It is a car that I now own, But as I park at home each night, I often see in fading light, Memories of a little tyke, Atop a red Schwinn Flyer bike, With monkey bars; banana seat, And of a time, life was complete. |

Oh my goodness...this is *so* touching. With every word, I received a flood of memories of my own, from my long since childhood. Thank you for that, and thank you for posting such a wonderful poem. |

Terrific memory for me mike. Well done Did you ever use a balloon in place of the card? They didn't last as long but had a different sound. -RS ------------------ |

I loved this poem and the memories you brought back to me too. Like a bike but so much cuter was my tiny two wheeled scooter |

Mike - How ironic that you would write about a Red Schwinn Flyer bike ... this one brought tears of sweet remembrance to this lady's eyes. My favorite picture of my late brother, MIKE, is of one of him on his red Schwinn bike. Thank you so much for shaking the memory tree with this nostalgic piece. ~Marge~ ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Thank you all so much for you gracious comments. Sounds like a lot of bicycle riders in Passions. Andrew, is your poem posted? would like to read it... Marge... sounds like you were blessed with a wonderful brother. Suthern, Satiate, FreeByrd, Pepper, Iloveit, Denise, Hoot and Martie: thanks. I was reading the posts tonight... really was an impressive array of poetry by some very talented people. |
