Christmas comes but once a year And that's probably a good thing Cause deep in me it causes fear Each time the yuletide rings. The malls with all their shoppers Running about on hand and foot, The Salvation Army coffers Brimming with fresh loot It all fills me with terror Fear and even dread, That here in all this furor, I could end up dead. The parking lot's a racetrack. The service line's a bore With people bringing stuff back So they can go buy more. They keep the yuletide cheery With echo's of "cha-CHING!" And fill us all with dreary Yultide shopping flings. Commercials now on TV Show it all with such glow That our eyeballs become bleary From watching it all flow. Furbies, Trolls and Rugrats, Bikes, and toys galore, No matter what you spend on them, You're always buying more. So here's my final thought 'For Christmas comes again, All those things they wish I'd bought Are still in the bargain bin. ------------------ Once I was brilliant, now I no longer shine, but the twinkle in my eye speaks of another time. So true, I hate the mad rushes. But we need to go back and remember what the true meaning of Christmas is all about! The gift of life from our Savior!! |

Christmas blues alright. Just once I wish I could skip all the rat race of it all! Great poem, RS, as usual! ![]() ------------------ Denise |

Thanks you two...mainly I just wanted to break out some of the "christmas cheer" to kinda tide over the more serious stuff here. ------------------ Once I was brilliant, now I no longer shine, but the twinkle in my eye speaks of another time. |

Argh! I share in your frustration here! Don't you hate that? I also hate how everyone gets so caught up in their Christmas lists and splurging, that they forget those who are without....or alone. Each year, kids should donate some of their old toys to the children who won't have much of a Christmas, and with that, they learn the satisfaction of caring about others, sharing, and being thankful! There are always kids who are less fortunate...I mentioned this idea to my oldest son who is 4, and he even thought it would be a great idea! What a nice thing to do this season, 'eh? |

Caleb is two and a half now and has a problem giving up his toys...so I don't think he'd go for that just yet. He's got so many from McDonald's and BurgerKing, etc...that it's hard to keep them all picked up. Many a morning I've gotten the Beast stuck in the bottom of my foot or Batman's batarang between my toes...I think this year the Christmas Fairy will come sweep some of those to the less fortunate. Thanks, PFF> ------------------ Once I was brilliant, now I no longer shine, but the twinkle in my eye speaks of another time. |
