“If I Do Not Love You”

Would you take the time to tell me-
Just what it is I feel...
You tell me I don’t love you
That you got a dirty deal.
You say it’s really over..
I can pack my bags and go...
And chase the one I really love,
That durned old rodeo.
I know I’m gone more than I’m home-
I know that isn’t good...
I’m not a good provider-
Like I promised that I would.
Pork and beans, and sardines-
Were all I had last week...
I only kept my fees and gas,
When I won up at Mesquite.
You say that I don’t love you?
Maybe? I don’t know-
You’ll never know how bad it hurts
Each time I pack and go.
You think it’s bad for you, my dear?
Each time I fail to ride...
For you it’s bills tyhat go unpaid-
For me it’s loss of pride.
I wanted so to please you-
To be a great big star...
To win that big gold buckle-
I said we were going far.
Ten years have passed-
I’m still small time, that’s all I’ll ever be
And now the only prize I won,
Is finally leaving me.
So if I do not love you-
Why do I hurt inside?
And would you please explain to me-
The lonely nights I’ve cried.
And tell me as you walk away,
You hope I’m happy now.
To take my danged old rodeo
You’re fed up anyhow.

Very descriptive, Gunslinger.
I really like it.
It may be sad ... but it speaks
from a heart that feels.

Nice one, GS - ya know - sometimes we grow together, and sometimes we grow apart - how fortunate we are when our lives take the same course as those we love - and how sad for us when they don't...

(I'm assuming this poem is a creation of fiction. If it's not, disregard my crass comment!)

If someone really loves you
They love you as you are
And know your love surrounds them
Whether near or far.

Sad but lovely poem GS.
