I see them perched upon their stools, Inebriated, drunken fools That love has chosen to deny Now left without the will to try They populate the seedy bars, These sympathetic Lochinvars Toss peanut shells upon the rug, Seek solace in a frosty mug. The night rolls on. Their lonliness Bears down unbearably with stress. All women seem like movie stars To losers smitten in the bars. Approaching any gal they see They try to garner sympathy And, possibly, the lady will Erase the feel of lonely's chill And let them play the Galahad, Although they do it very bad And make exceptions for their sake And some small pity on them take. No takers, though, grant their request Nor even show small interest So they sit, victims of love's wars Alone and smitten in the bars. |

Sad but true, in the bars, or on the lonely avenue. Hard to see clear when you've had too much beer. Good commentary on life and great poem as usual, Balladeer. |
