The Announcement There's something about the song of a locust in the air A non-intrusive gesture that makes us so aware A little August ritual that warns of things to come And reminds us that our splendid summer days are almost done A nostalgic kind of melody the summer locust sings Tolling the end of August with an old familiar ring With a steady and insistant droan he warbles in his ways Announcing to the universe approaching autumn days Our whole perspective changes when the locust sings his tune Like the spinning of the earth and the cycles of the moon We are reminded that the rhythms of the seasons never cease As the locust unreluctantly performs his masterpiece Elizabeth Santos (This poem is only relevent in my part of the country, perhaps not in others, and as Sy pointed out, all of this will change, but not in my lifetime, at least not in this lifetime) Bye-bye |

Elizabeth Your locust has sound its peep And reached into my heart so deep, It lifted from within my well The ringing of a memory bell. Wisdom rides upon the wind, It cannot ever be exscind. It's there for all to touch upon. It is like a liaison. Your poem is beautiful. |

The locust is not the only one who performs a masterpiece. So does your name, when attached to any poem. Take care, poet. |

Beautiful poem Elizabeth. Although I've never heard the song, I feel the melody now in my heart, because of you. |
