Sitting in Michael's Lap

"To thine own self be true," my friend;
Accept no compromise:
And pay no heed to how you look
In someone else's eyes;

If one should hope to judge with looks
They may as well be blind --
For such means naught to what you've done
To fascinate the mind;

Mere beauty, captured by the eyes,
Cannot gain such extoll
As wisdom shared, that delves the depths
Of someone else's soul;

The rarest vision, Heaven-sent,
Cannot such joy impart
As he who grants a moment's peace
To someone else's heart.

Beyond the reach of any eyes,
Defying time and space,
Know this: your light has brought a smile
To someone else's face.

Sincerely,

--Kess

hehehe. Had to edit my response because I jumped on a soapbox instead of addressing your poem. It is a wonderful response, Kess, and I appreciate your words very much.

My dearest Balladeer, I was neglectful in not addressing the multiple layers of meaning in your poem and choosing to narrow my interpretation of the refrain -- you were right to be soapboxing. Rest assured, I do not contend that this explores the entirety of your piece's depth -- I only honed in on the key phrase.

Your thanks -- and your verse -- are well received, soap or no.
