Now, Billy Joe, and Bobby Lee Were red-neck to the core. Raised down in Louisiana- On the Atchafalaya shore. Big and dumb as men could come To them all things were fine With just a jug of home-made hooch- And a treble hook trot line. Now ‘gator poachin’ is crime- But purt fair livin’ too. And gator poachin’s just the thang Them boys knowed how to do. The moon was bright that late fall night- They made their final run- To hunt for gators in the marsh- With ropes, and gaff, and gun. it was the last of them two boys The country ever saw.... They had no clue, that they would meet The Louisiana law. Q-beams of a bayou night- Are incandescent bright- And only dolts like Billy Joe.. Would try to shoot the lights. Rifles fired and bullets flew- From both sides of the bank, But when the shooting was all through, Old Bobby’s pirouge sank. The story told back in the swamp To this day still does rankle. They say the law did dump them boys With weights tied to their ankles. Just go down to the bayou- If you should want a fright they say them boys are screaming yet There in the swamps at night. Moral? Yeah, I guess there is- The plainest ever saw, If you poach gators down that way, You’ll run across the law. And here’s another ‘n for yuh- If them lawmen ever catch you- You won’t get no more gators Cause the gator’s gonna getcha. |

'Slinger...you've whipped up another fine one. Your tales are spell-binding and you pull me through them with ease. (Must be the treble hook trot line ... got me hooked) ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

The story would be great without the rhyme and the rhyme is great--You are a talented Gunslinger, yes you are. Sure glad you like us here at Passions! |

Marge and her boys will be huntin' gators next week. Hope we don't find them floatin' in the swamp. Excellent flavor captured here. |

I had no idea y'all were so fluent in that there Cajun talk....After two years living in central Louisiana and several trips back over the last few, nothing that happens down there surprises me anymore. But I honestly have to say you've captured a lot of attention here with this little forray. Well written. ------------------ Once I was brilliant, now I no longer shine, but the twinkle in my eye speaks of another time. |
