Something divine

The eye of the storm devoured the night
with rain, weeping against the windows,
leaving us in the dark.  You leaned over
the table in ivory nakedness, warmed
by the flickering amber of burning candles,
writing, what were you writing? A tale
spinning past the shores of your life.

Triptych face in wasted shadows, roaring flame.
Bones, wisdom, peace. In the sunken haven
of concave lines, anchored ships waited safe.
No burdens in your eye sockets,
half moons lingering in the shade.
What were your lips saying? All and nothing.
Ragged lips, a mock, the entrance of love.

You wrote and I watched across the room
dead with silence, engulfing us both
in cathedral quietness. You rested upon
the angles of your bony bareness, still
in the minute eternity of a drop of water,
and I couldn't tell whether you were marmoreal cold
Or the fire of a fallen angel.

Were there jewels in the silky shine of your hair,
Or silver tears upon the flower of your dreams?
Were had you been, all this time?
Did I see you then, was I seeing you now
The very first time? What was your grace,
The echo of those past lives, the voices
I heard, were they just on my head?

In your smile I read my name, a shooting star
took me away, drawing me close,
and I listened, listened to your knowledge,
I felt, felt your light, I tasted, tasted your hunger,
I touched with you the sky.  You were divine.

No watch, no suit or tie, no car or job,
no demands. No trophies, no greed,
not even lust. Only the deep love of a heavenly heart,
the wisdom from the other side, whispered
to each man, a cosmic echo beyond our time.

I understood then, why I run back to you
each time my shoes touch the streets.

Great poem Marta, so rich and full.  Welcome

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

Marta -

This is just awesomely beautiful.
Quite an entrance.

The 'triptych face' just blows me away
with the imagery.

You've come in with a powerful piece.
Welcome.  Hope to read much more from you.

Thank you for all your kind replies. I am a member of another literary forum and learned about yours during a recent Christmas dinner at the Society of Poets.  I met Mr. Balladier there (hi Michael!) who recited poem after poem, by heart. I was very impressed by his poetry, by his kindness and great sense of humor. I am also impressed by the quality and number of poems posted here on a daily basis, as well as the time and effort taken to reply. Great job.

Welcome!  And what a beautiful poem!  You mean to tell me that Balladeer actually has some memorized?  Heck, I can't even memorize my own (is that weird?)!

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Yes Tara, Balladeer has a powerful memory...and powerful verses. He can certainly hold an audience, something I could never do. Thank you.

By the way, they were his own poems.
