A few weeks ago our local website ran a comp for a 16 line poem on the theme of Christmas. They wanted something original. I just heard mine got 2nd place so I thought I'd share it with you. THE WORD ON THE STREET This one’s for all the hypocrites And scoffers with their mocking fits This Christmas..... Hey! what you achievin’ Toastin’ what ya don’t believe in? Laughin’, jokin’, shoutin’ out.... No savvy what its all about? Wise up! Chill out man - get a life And don’t be dealin’ out no strife! Hows ‘bout ya get yer sorry butt Down to ya local Jesus hut The preacher’s cool - he’ll fill yer head With better stuff than Lion Red!** He’ll maybe tell you ‘bout the guy Who died to give y’a chance to try. You owe Him, man - let Him collect... At Christmas time - a li’l respect! © Rod Walford 1999 ** local beer! |

Hey Rod.... This certainly takes the true meaning of Christmas and relates it to today's society - and that's no easy task.. Nicely done, my friend... |

Congratulations on 2nd prize. Good message in this one! It seems to me that to some people the holidays are just another excuse to party. Denise |
