For the Love

For the love and loving
that you do so naturally
and the respect you give me
to be what I want to be

For the times that I can sit
and not have to say a word
but know by touch of hand
that I am understood.

For listening to my stories
and telling me the truth
and morning coffee and a paper
without even being asked

For the beauty that is in you
the way that you see life
for all the glorious little things
like being handy with a knife

How you make a garden sing
is a thrill beyond compare
for the hard work and the labor
that keeps us from despair

For your soul that’s full of goodness
I will always be so glad
that you came into my life
that grandma told you what you had

For all those things
and just one more
I’m truly glad
that you were born.
