A different box..   ))

This one is full of memories but ones that make you smile
the little clown that dangles with star spangled suit and hat
the ivory laced edged heart with perfect crystal in the middle
the tiny drums and trumpets bought when I was but a lass

I must have 50 different decorations one or two bought each year
they each tell a story of what was happening for me in each year of my life
some bring such a smile others a tear but Christmas Eve is the time
mince pies warm from the oven, claret in sparkling crystal glasses

It's my favourite night of the year I watch the coloured lights in the street
imagining they represent a single child's wish or maybe yours and mine
loving looks exchanged as we recognise the time and effort for our gift
children and their thoughts on how quickly can they play with the wrapping

Lots of noise, adults wanting their dinner and me, well, I'm Hitler come Christmas
one child starts it off by picking up a present and calling out the recipients name
each waits with excitement while gift is undone and thanks and kisses given
depending on the children, yep, starts at 11am and carries on till about 6pm..   )))

You may be thinking the children get fed up, they don't, they love Christmas here
the way they can never get in the kitchen for adults, they drink as much coke as they like
take the video for my sister in the states, me with sprouts in one hand lego in the other
it's a day that should happen every day, the love, good thoughts and plenty of hugs

Happiness mixed with sadness for those days have come to an end, our children of the world
need their mother's and father's or they grow up and lovers forget to be lovers or have different needs
but the fairy and my box of purchased joy will always remain a very special memory
each Christmas Eve as the frost is on the pavement and the lights sparkle
with all our loving wishes...

Give a little thought for those without a home
the child without a parent,  kiss and hug
the parents that can't provide what we each take for granted
for those they love so much.

Peace!

ps: apologies for such a rotten poem but the thought is there, isn't that what we say?

Yes, that's what we say, Rainbow, and your thoughts are priceless. I, too, collect one ornament every year to remind me in someway what the year represented. It's always fun to pull them out and reminisce. Merry Christmas, Rainbow

Not rotten at all, Rainbow! Like the sentiments here.

Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

I rarely buy an ornament for myself... but I have many that were gifts and bring the giver into my home for the holidays. *S* And I give each of my godchildren an ornament every Christmas... and love the way they treasure their collections. I like this box, RG! *S*

The older we get, the more cherished are childhood memories.  The gifts are rarely remembered, but traditions, ah..they are the groundwork of true love.  Thanks for sharing yours.
