(This was sent to me by a friend and the words touched me so deeply I just had to share it. I know there are alot here that are alone or who have lost love ones for whom the holidays may not be a welcome addition to their lives this year. I can't pretend to know each of your seperate pains, your losses and your fears...but I can offer up friendship and support. My e-mail is always open to anyone here. I just want you to know that you are cared about.)

Because I really care about you,
I'm not going to pretend
and wish you a merry Christmas
as if nothing's happened.
Instead, I'm going to reach out to you
and tell you that I realize
this must be a very difficult time for you.
It probably doesn't seem fair
that everyone else is smiling
and laughing and enjoying
the holidays as usual, while your heart is aching.
There may be times a favorite carol
that used to bring a smile to your face
that now brings tears to your eyes.
You may feel confused, cheated,
and even angry...
and I wouldn't blame you.
But rather than force the holiday spirit,
please be honest with your emotions.
Cry, be angry, do whatever
it takes to get through this.
Remember, too, that in time you'll
be ready to celebrate Christmas again.
And until then,
know that there are many people
whose hearts are with you,
especially now...
people who care about you very much
and always, always will.
          ~Renee' Duvall

"I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me , this has always been enough." ~Nicholas Sparks from The Notebook

Ruth -
I'm glad you shared this with me.

While I will look forward to Christmas
I am reminded of those who do not.

Part of my Christmas memories this year
will be spent remembering a sister
I lost just two months ago.

I will remember her four children,
I will remember her deep-throated laugh,
I will remember that her eyes twinkled
with merriment.

I will remember that her name was Shari
and that her leaving leaves a great big
hole in my heart.

I will try to fill that hole with
memories of her ... that are so alive.

I will cry tears that remind me she was
worth them.
I will hug my children tighter.
I will thank God that I'm here to hug them.

I will think of you ...
and wish you happiness.
And ... if I need someone to share my tears
with ... I will call on you.
Love ~Marge~

Ruth, this is beautiful - as is most anything you do here. Thankyou for sharing this with us and for thinking of those who might not have a wondrous christmas. Renee Duvall wrote a lovely poem, but that you thought to post it makes you even more lovely, my friend.

Marge - many hugs.

My christmas will not be complete for I am away from my mother who is still quite ill.
Though I am welcomed into Seaangel's family this year, it still won't be easy. My mother is so beautiful and deserves more christmas joy than anyone I know.

Ruth, thanks for sharing that.   Renee Duvall is a favorite of mine.  She does a lot of cards for Hallmark.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Oh Ruth how lovely and lovely of you to find and post it!   I make a pact to myself right now to do my damndest to have a merry Christmas this year, come hell or high water!!
Same goes for me everyone, with emails we are not truly alone, we can write and know within a few hours we shall have a response.  I too offer my mailbox on Christmas and new years to anyone who needs to talk.

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there IS to celebrate.

My christmases have been bitter sweet for the last few years. I feel joy watching my children's eyes light up with the merriment of the season. Yet there is a void deep inside myself. I am lucky that I have my children, they are everything to me. Some people don't even have that joy to lift them up. I wish you all the joy this season can bring you. You are my blessing and I thankyou for that.
