When Love Is Set Free ... It Returns
~Marge Tindal~ 1999

When I was quite youthful,
I chanced upon a man,
who taught me more about love
than anyone else ever can.

He lived his life through love,
given to others from his heart.
He never met a love
from which he chose to part.

The love that touched his life,
stayed for the time it was there.
If the person bearing the love should go,
he gave them his heart to wear.

He taught me the reason for loving
should be because it's there.
Any other purpose
is just a burden to bear.

If love goes ... let it.
If love stays ... it's meant to be.
The best love keeps returning.
In order for it to return
you have to set it free.

By following the things he taught me,
I've been in love since then.
Friends of my making keep returning
and my heart still welcomes them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*This wonderful man was my Grandfather.
He never expected anything in return for giving someone his heart.  He said he never got disappointed that way.
It was his to give and so he did.
This one's for my Grandpa.
And an honour it is too...
and an honour to be your friend, Marge.
Beautiful writing.
I loved this poem Marge--it spoke to my thoughts and then expressed them, only better.
A wise man indeed and an equally wise granddaughter.
Thanks to all of you.
He was a giant of a man
standing 6'3" ...
he said he lived on the
plane of love given
and set free.
Grandpa's are just the
greatest kind of men ...
Living, loving
gone ...
yet, he lives within
my heart.
*If you're lucky enough to have yours
around .... give him a special *hug*.
Marge, I never knew my grandfather, he died
of a broken heart after losing a teenage
son and daughter (twins) during an epidemic
of typhoid fever in the tropics. But now
I'm a grandfather myself, and am deeply
moved by the loving way you described your
grandfather. I love my two grandaughters
very much and I know they reciprocate.
Your poem inspired me to try and write one
about them and my love and hopes for their
future. Thank you for your beautiful poem,
Margie!
Your grandfather was a fine soul, and it seems to run in the family!
Willem -
I'm sorry you never knew the joy
of your grandfather's hug or the
wonderful stories he would have told.
Now is your chance to see that your
granddaughter's remember you ...
write for them.
They will love you for it.
Glad to have inspired your pen to stroke
your thoughts for them.
Thanks ... he was an extraordinary soul.
And I should only hope it's hereditary !
He'd have spanked my little fanny if he ever
thought I hadn't lived up to his creed.
LOVE ... GIVEN ... IS JUST THAT
Glad you enjoyed it.
