I stand upon battle-scarred ramparts, slickened by the slime of years. Foreboding is what this place imparts, with echoes of pain-filled tears. A heavy fog flows through broken walls , tinged with the taste of the sea. Each night this ancient fortress recalls, days filled with former glory. A chill wind adds to the mystery, of this former Warlord's lair. Awesome sensations of history, fill the salty evening air. Most of the castle fell prey to time, though ageless is how it feels. The walls are covered in salty rime, that hides more than it reveals. Closing my eyes I hear battle's cry, from echoes out of the past. My ears do hear the first soldier die, my heart is what hears the last. The Warlord made one fatal mistake, for he stole a royal bride. Paternal rage was left in his wake, stolen daughter at his side. Suffice it to say the fortress fell, but not to treacherous greed. The Warlord's own love rang its death-knell, for that did his soldiers bleed. A mirrored pool lay in a garden, in which the princess would sit. She knew both men's resolve would harden, only a death would end it. The walls were breached by her father's hordes, soldiers that lived to cause strife. Amidst the din from warrior's swords, the princess took her own life. Her heart'sblood ran into the water, as her soul sought its release. In grief from the death of his daughter, the emperor left in peace. In that pool I discovered magic, and seen what comes of a wish. I learned that love is sometimes tragic, from the swarms of small red fish. ©1999 DreamEvil Now and forever, my heart hears ~one voice~. Marvelously crafted work. Dramatic, enticing, invigorating read. I am a Life Purpose Coach who specializes in assisting men and women to clarify their Life Purpose and then in turn live true to their purpose. After 5 years working with the Severely Mentally Ill in County Mental Health, I gave up the bureaucracy (and safe, secure blanket) of this environment to pursue my own purpose and passion. |

I like this Scott. You tell a great story. It matters not how strait the gate; How charged with punishments the scroll; I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. --W.E. Henley |

Egad my friend, a tale masterfully told with a painful poignance poetically attacking the soul. |

This is a tale told of an ancient fortress on the island of Okinawa. I was there as a boy and remembered watching the darting red fish in the pool, each a drop of that princess' blood. Thank you all for replying to this tale. |
