As music starts to play,
And couples start to sway.
Alone against the wall you'll find
Her in a corner, left behind.

No one notices that she is there.
Nor do they even seem to care.
Dance after dance she sits alone.
Wishing that she had stayed at home.

Why judge a book by its cover,
When there's so much inside to discover?
But no one gives her a chance.
While she hopes for just one dance.

She walks the road of many tears.
Ignored again like it's been for years.
Trapped and frustrated from the turmoil inside,
She tries to find someplace to hide.

Back home alone she wonders why
They look at her then pass on by.
Tears start falling from her eyes.
As I look in the mirror, the girl sadly cries.

Thought-provoking....  Suddenly I'm back in high school leaning against the bleachers during the last slow song. A moving poem - wonderful job!

Eloise -
If you're a wallflower ...
I'll take a bouquet.
This is so typical of so many
of us at one time or another in
our lives.
You shared it nicely.

Its sad but true. People miss the real beauty when they refuse to look beneath the books cover. Thanks for putting it so nicely Eloise.

Very well done, Eloise. The last line is perfect. Bravo.

You can feel the hurt in this one! It is really sad when one cannot look within. The true beauty held within that they don't see is truly their loss!

Thank you all for the comments.  It truly is sad when someone feels that they can't fit in.  If you look at society today and what it is doing to our kids and what they are doing to get attention.  And you're absolutely right Betty and WhtDove.  Thanks Balladeer I was trying to put a twist at the end.  Glad it came through.
