The Rules of the Game The ember from a loving hearth ignites the neighbors roof A careless act causes the forever change of someone’s life The germ hides waiting for the tender heart while a cold hearted man lives to ninety Is life a kind of death to a miserable spirit and death a new beginning for a sick small body? People forever wonder about the rules of this game while life and death play checkers King me. |

Martie, you're writing about something that really plagues me. If there are rules, I don't know them that has babies die and criminals die of old age. It's not in the cards for us to know, I guess. er, Martie, have you gone to the birds? |

I think I got this.....Life is unfair....but the after life is where the King is...And he Rules the game. King of King....Lord of Lords? Did I get this right? Share what you are for you are what you share |

Wonderful. The last line - that did it, it gave me chills. Life is a mystery - furthered by death. K |

There sure are a lot of questions for questioners like me that can't be answered, but I still ask. Thanks everyone for the resonses. First Knight--actually the "king me" was in connection with the game of checkers. |

Life It isn't a game It has no rules Winners can lose Losers can win But it's far from fair We are neither pawn Nor player We just are It just is Life And when it's over Is it Heaven? Is it Hell? Something more? Something less? Or just a face full of dirt! The dead never speak Would they tell you if they could? Think about it! Would you want really want to know? Not I Life Live it Love it Move on Only then will you know And if you could Would you tell? Not I Martie: Please excuses me for this... I read your offering and those that responded and then I just started writing in free verse. It's the first time I've ever written such... Don't know that I exactly agree with all I've said but there it is. Thanks for being my catalyst. Again, my apologies if I've stepped on any toes. |

Thanks Scott for the poetic reply--no apologies needed at all. I'm really glad my poem and its responses brought out such a creation. I enjoyed reading it. You posed some more interesting questions. |

Martie there are no rules in the game of life. Or this is what I think. We face each day with the chances we are given. It is up to us how we play. I loved the poem. B Gravitt |

The rules are: there are no rules. That's one of the wonders of life, good or bad, you never know what's waiting around the corner. Nice work Martie. |
