He's Quite a Man!

So loving was his warm embrace
His gentle kiss upon my face
His tender words, adoring smile
Oh! Take me again to that time and place!

Just look at him! He's quite a man!
And very handsome, I might add
I can't believe he's all grown up
It seems that he was just a lad

It thrills me so each time he sends
A picture with a little card
Look at him now! He's all grown up
And catching up is very hard

So there it goes! Into the box
With letters scattered in between
A box of photographs of him
From little tyke to age nineteen

Look, there he is at age of four
What a little angel face!
And here's one with a soccer ball
A child with such loving grace

There he is in uniform
With several school books in his hand
My, how the years have flown
The hourglass just pouring sand

This one is my favorite one
Look at how he's hugging me!
Such an affectionate child he was
Sitting there upon my knee

I never will forget that day
He took my hand and walked me home
Anxiously pulling me
Through dusty street to his abode

He handed me a cooling drink
Trying very hard to please
So loving was this nine year old
My sponsored child overseas

Please show me where you sleep, I said
He proudly pointed to the wall
And there a folded hammock hung
A picture of his life I saw

His mother aged beyond her years
Whom I had ever longed to meet
Turned and said, I thank you so
For we were living in the street

She invited me to sit a while
Carlos pointed to the place
A sofa with a big wide arm
And he, a glow upon his face

He sat upon the sofa arm
I remember every word he said
For over an hour embracing me
Then upon my shoulder laid his head

What blessings I have been bestowed!
It does the spirit so uplift
To have so full a treasure box
This loving soul,  this precious gift

I love him so, as best I can
Just look at him!  He's quite a man!

Blessings given, blessings received! We reap what we sow! You have sown seeds of love and of course you will receive love in return! Very beautiful poem, Elizabeth!

Wow Elizabeth.  This is absolutely beautiful.  I know this feeling and you've expressed so wonderfully.  They grow so quickly from babies to young men.

He's quite a man, no doubt - because he had quite some support getting there....

Elizabeth, my friend -
I'm crying so that I can hardly see.
God bless you sweet lady.
Carlos sure had a guardian angel in you.
You are loving.
And you are loved.

Thank you for sharing another glimpse of your beautiful soul....
