Forever In Your Heart

You say I am never good enough,
You say do this or that,

You say you love me,
But is it?

You raise your voice in a shout,
Tell me its me you can't live without,

You get mad and angry,
Your temper starts to flare,

I have come to the point,
Where I just don't care,

I am not perfect,
No matter how hard you want me to be,

I am poisioned with fear,
upon your request of my liberty,

You put me down,
Tell me not to gain weight,

Go to bed when I do,
Don't stay up late!

You keep me at home,
So my heart doesn't roam,

Little birdie inside it's cage,
Time for me to fly,

Before I die,
And I encumber your rage,

I am not you,
You are not me,

I need to breathe,
But you smother me,

Your love is jealous,
You do not trust,

I feel empty,
But it's ok for YOU to lust,

I have sacrificed,
I have lost my identity,

I have become what you have made me,
No more will I bow to you or your command,

I have thoughts and dreams,
I am who I am,

I am a person with thoughts,
I am real and more than flesh,

You want perfection,
I am going in another direction,

Your kind of love has failed my test,
The inner me is here and the other me has been put to rest,

No longer will I pretend,
No longer will I preform,

I want happiness,
Not your scorn,

I am headed in the right direction...
No longer will I have to live up to your idea of PERFECTION!

Everyone needs to be free. This is a great expression of that sentiment and one to which I can personally relate. Very well done.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!!!

Too many people are afraid of what other people think of them; always trying to live up to an impossible standard. I thought this poem was bright and brave and brilliant.

This shows a lot of the pain and the freedom taken from you. But it seems that you are well on your way to making your real dreams come true. I wish you well on this journey and may the Lord continue to bless your path. I am glad to have shared a part of your life in this great poem.

you are very right this is an unrealistic standard, but i to am guilty of this all to often. sometimes i get so cuaght up in trying to make my relationship perfect (when i know good and well its not even close!) that i lose sight of how beautiful it is at that very moment. soemtimes people try to manipulate the meaning of perfection, becuase they know it is something they can never grasp. beautiful peom, enjoyed very much!

It looks like you're the one that's getting mad and angry now...but that is a good thing...because it has motivated you to see the truth. As you say so well in your poem...you say you Love me...But is it? Obviously, it is not even close to Love...it is a desire to control and manipulate another. It is a person so busy trying to control your life that I wonder if they have time to live their own. Your poem was very well written and brings one of lifes injustices into the light. James

I know that there is such abuse as physical, you can see it! But how do you determine mental abuse

and if you are in it how do you know

I am confused! and I don't know what to do?
