A Christmas Wish

I walk down the shadowed hallway,
The house, so cold this time of year.
To the closet where it's tucked away,
In that box of holiday cheer.

I filter through the ornaments,
Through the lights and silver stencil.
The long forgotten innocense,
Of cards drawn in colored pencil.

It's here somewhere, just hard to find,
Not much of a decoration.
Beneath the wreath, a soul's bequeath,
Wrapped in disappreciation.

"Will you help decorate the tree?"
Simple question for her to ask.
"You don't know what that means to me,
You sure you'd be up to the task?"

I'm not sure just how to answer,
But the best way I know to start...
Is the ornament I offer
Within this box, a tarnished heart.

I'll gladly place it on the tree,
After I polish it for you.
I'll light the roof for all to see,
Hang stockings for the children, too.

We can go caroling one night.
We can make angels in the snow.
Or cuddle by the warm firelight,
Where we can make love sweet and slow.

Yes, I'll help decorate the tree,
I've just one thing to ask of you;
Would you spend next Christmas with me,
So a tarnished heart may shine anew?

You can pencil me in with permanant ink, babe....For next December - it's a date! Although the way I see it, we'll be spending far more of the year together than that.....the holidays will just be a plus!
I read this, and it nearly made me cry...You sure know how to take the simplest thought, or something so small that we've shared or talked about, and turn it into a heartwarming masterpiece for all to enjoy! Magical you are - my magic!! And like I said, this will be your last Christmas alone....Next year has so much to offer us...what a way to start a new relationship, a brand new millennium 2000, and a clean slate to boot for our hopes, dreams, and love.

Michael,
This is very touching. I know where you are coming from this year. I have decided to not have a tree and to celebrate as little as possible. The holidays are not kind sometimes. I am so happy for you that next year will be a brighter and more happy occasion.

Thank you all for the warm replies and wishes. I know my holidays will only get better, and I do know I have a lot to be thankful for, even spending this Christmas alone. You all have touched me very deeply this year, I am proud to call you all my friends.

Femme, you are my magic, too.

I enjoyed this too, Michael.

In every stanza
A picture came
Into my own mind
And I could see it crystal clear
A tarnished heart to find.
