Road to Mendocino The road slices through regal redwoods Speckles of sunlight skim canopies of branches Redolence tingling noses Continuing through fertile valleys Ripened Cabernet grapes suspended Migrant workers cutting Bunches with sharp knives September sun drubbing Bandanas wipe sweaty brows While winery owners stay cool Inside climate controlled rooms The road winds, turns Descending altitudes Culminating in intersection Pacific Coast Highway The sky is cloudless, azure Ocean tint echoes Boulders bulge Birds claim domain Whitening rocks The road runs between Old clapboard houses People don’t build new ones Defending history Now “Bed and Breakfasts” Or “Galleries” Artists draw in, mesmerized All standing, cliff’s edge at sunset Big orange orb plunging Outside of town The road leads to Milkyways Startlingly visible To eyes old and new © 1999 Corinne Bailey |

Corinne - A lovely trip through the California wine country ... straight to the Pacific's edge. I've been there ... thanks for taking me back. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
