A Sunday morning tale with toast and jam

The Dunking of the Ship

At invitation's bold request
Why not accept the Navy's best
Why not an underwater trip
Initiating Navy's ship

A newly purchased submarine
Fulfills Brazilian Navy's dream
From World War II a serpent sleek
A ship of war's Pacific fleet

Then finally came the day they wait
An antique ship to initiate
And proud they were as they could be
To sail a relic of the sea

Brazilian Navy's high command
Like haughty llamas proudly stand
They posed and posed in camara's eye
Atop the serpent, heads a'high

And each one proudly passed on through
The dignitary who of who
The governor and grand brigade
Officials in a fine parade

They left the port to open sea
So very ceremoniously
A dignitary pleasure trip
Precarious dunking of the ship

Then far from shore my smile fades
The die was cast, decision made
As serpent plunged my heart did race
What am I doing in this place?

What invitation so induced
Regret so woefully produced
The antique ship to fathoms went
Prestigious undersea event

Then creaking, grinding, groaning sounds
Did serpent's belly hit the ground?
What mad desire had hit my head
What sound of glory caused such dread?

Then knowing I the price to pay
To never see the light of day
Entombed in darkness far from shore
In serpent's belly evermore

Then slithely the snake did move
In tumbling patterns slow and smooth
What genius navigates the ship
For Navy's most prestigious trip

But then throughout the Navy Queen
The haughty llamas turning green
And claustophobic panic bells
Toll out the cry of ocean swells

At port there stood a cheering crowd
To meet the dignitaries proud
But rising they from up the ship
Revealed the truth of pleasure trip

Now haughtiness and chesty stance
Gave way to doubled over dance
And camaras captured for the news
The doubled over backside views

A day of days in Nation's pride
With glory riding by its side
The band then played the anthem soft
With haughty stance and heads aloft

Sounds like a pretty exciting time to me - reminiscent of the day recently when they took the USS Constitution out for a joy ride - and we watched the Blue Angels soar over it's bow... Every dignitary in the country was out playing like little kids that day... Hm... should've written a poem about it.... Yours is excellent, Elizabeth

Elizabeth,
I find this poem a golden nest
Of a writers written best.
It is so full of teasures true
T'will take a life to think it through.
Wonderful.

Nan and Sy,
This poem is a product of not having anything to do at 4:00 in the morning, but nonetheless it is a true tale
Thanks for reading
Elizabeth
