How's about we start this thread right?  Here is another one I found in the archives I read all his/her work and enjoyed.

Essorant, thank you - shall make her my night reading this evening.  Only read one and already know that this lady can sure rhyme beautifully, and her composition of thought is amazing.

I like this thread.  We have SO many great poets here at PiP - Lots of folks who have moved on, and lots who are still here.

Another great writer whose work shouldn't be forgotten is Skyfyre.  Linda is superb, though busy in "real time" these days...

We all read Martie, Maree, Littlewing, and Babygirlwlove, but an absentee one I love that writes similar is rwood (Regina went back to poetry school) I think

Sheesh!  Speaking of absentees of late we can't forget to recommend our own dear, Janet Marie!  Her DeVante poems are superb works. /main/search.cgi?rAction=DisplayResults&cyclefile=18180599225777

I only have three people in my Private Library. One, already mentioned, is Elizabeth Cor (though she hasn't posted in quite while), another is Kamla (Severn) and the first, is Alicia.

There is something about her writing that always gets me. I often recall something Balladeer said [to the effect of]: i can look at a painting and not understand what it is (in real world terms), but can still think it's a beautiful painting. While I'm not always in the dark on Alicia's poems, even the ones I think i understand the most, I still have a feeling there's a lot i missed... and that the parts I miss are the ones affecting me the most... on a visceral level.

If you haven't, you should read her. I haven't read a one I didn't think was amazing.

I would love to participate in this part of the forums, however, I am currently unable to access any of the hyperlinks posted. Glitch. I'll be back when it's fixed.

Doc, the links I guess do cancel out over time, so perhaps do your own search for the authors suggested in the Search feature at the top of this page.     Worth the effort to read these poets mentioned that is for sure.

Because the concept of "dark poetry" is so tricky, but potentially so excellent, I have to suggest people check out and read some of bsquirrel's poetry.  Read Acoustic Guitar and In Beautiful, Desolate L.A.  These are just favourites of mine and, for all I know, they are far from his best, since I haven't read everything he's written.

Poets from whom to learn the art of storytelling, a skill that is often regretfully overlooked by amateur poets, are Balladeer and Kit McCallum.  Classics by 'Deer are in high supply, but I'll mention Small Pain In My Chest, The Cycle and The Preacher and the Boy as a few of my favourites.  From Kit, the same could be said regarding quantity, but I'll say that I really like her recent poem Nowhere to run to as exemplary of the storytelling genre.

Nobody has more space in my private library than Martie.  I would encourage everyone to pay attention to her use of imagery and her careful gleaning of truths from nature, which at its best borders on poetic mysticism.  The Room of Chairs, The Eatery, and Quiz the Fence are good examples.  She's also responsible for the highly emotional A Love Story, which makes use of the storytelling convention in a pointed and gut-wrenching way.

I'll mention a few others as I think of them.  Great topic!

Brian

Karilea beat me to Elizabeth Cor, and Christopher beat me to my other favourites, Kamla(Severn) and Alicia(sheer genius).

This leaves Christopher, Wranx, the Blazey one and Maree to round out my magnificent seven. I'm not forgetting other poets. There are many I adore, but these are the writers I looked for and learned from when I joined.

Actually I forgot one - that ole Ron Carnell is worth a read, and our Nan isn't any slouch either.

Brian you picked my favorite, which is Martie for free verse, and I sure miss RWood around here too.  Others I tend to go read in the archives are Janet Marie and Mark Bohanan.

Michael (Balladeer) has put some of his better ones to sound now, and I feel spoiled     You mentioned "A Pain In My Chest" and he just posted that one and it is about the best story there is.  However am waiting for Kit and Michael to post thier work together - it rocks!
