The Winter has begun in my low land
And heaps of mud are forming ridges grey
On wich you stumble when you walk the path

The grass is turning grey with shades of green
And willows sway their branches in the wind
The people search for skates in attics dark

The water will be frozen thick real soon
And youngsters learn to skate behind a chair
The doctors will be mending broken bones

The time that mice will enter my old house
When harvest has been taken from the land
And cats that are too lazy to catch one

To burn the stoves with coals is real hard work
Alarms are watching carbon monoxide
But they went off when I cooked dinner too

I have to feed my sheep here ev'ry day
And they're demanding water by the tons
They feel no cold in their long furry coat

My hands are cold when typing this here verse
I've put my sweater on to keep me warm
It's time to drink hot milk and go to bed

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

Hi Titia!

You've painted an outstanding word picture of the onset of winter.  Very descriptive.  Winter is not my favorite season and I hibernate with my books.  The temperatures are dropping in Kansas and I sit here sneezing as I read your poem.  It's time for some hot chocolate.

Great write!
Shenachie

You paint a very bleak and vivid picture, Titia. It's gotten quite bad here in Florida, too. Yesterday I almost had to wear long pants! Fortunately it warmed up just in time!!

Ha Sue, it's not freezing anymore today, but then it will be all slippery with mud on the streets.

Shenachie, I love hot chocolate, I'll come and join you.

Michael, I think Fort Lauderdale has the right temperature for me right now. But the lottery won't let me win a big prize, so I have to save some money first, takes time. But when I come again, I'll take a snowball with me for you, count on that my Deer! "Almost have to wear long pants".....huh!!!! I sit here full of envy my dear boy.

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

Titia...I got cold just reading this.
You've painted quite a chilling picture here.
Nicely done, my friend.

Your lowland is a very lovely place
Your words and photographs reveal it all
No matter how the winter sullies it
Your homeland's truly glorious it seems
