I Am Not A Quitter I was born in Texas~this I can prove We moved to Oklahoma~when I was only two She said I was already learning to read This is hard for me to believe, too Sneaking out~while her back was turned (1957) I sat there on the curb~as the cars went by A big mack truck hit me~sending me 150 feet Doctors told her I wouldn't live~that was a lie Mom took me home and worked with me everyday Teaching me how to do~what I had already learned Learning the second time~was harder than the first In order to teach me~she had to stay real firm Nerve and motor damage is what they said I had The doctors couldn't believe it~the day I walked in They took me down the hospital hall~showing me off Proving that I had learned to walk~once again Even went to school~just like the rest of the kids Once again I had learned~ to read and write Did not always make the best of grades Still I kept on trying~and sometimes I was right Being slower to learn~than the other kids Alot of times~I just wanted to give up and quit But, I never was a quitter~I just struggled on Just to prove to everyone~I was not unfit Sometimes, it takes me a little bit longer To learn things~that come so easy to you Only after trying two or three times~I find I can do almost everything~that you all can do Thank you, Mom, for not giving up on me like the doctors had done. If it hadn't of been for all your determination it was a battle~I wouldn't have won. By Sue 6-18-02 [This message has been edited by SmartChick (06-18-2002 05:40 PM).] |

What an inspiring story of the long road to recovery. More awesome because it's true. You said it, Sue. You are not a quitter. Thank you for sharing. Shenachie |

What a remarkable person you are to write such an inspirational message. This poem went straight to my heart, and tears fall knowing I have not done the best with what I have. I need to try harder to exercise and make it a daily goal to work my muscles. You, sweet lady are probably the one to get me to do it THank you so very much for sharing. If you write a short metered poem, I promise I will learn to stand on one foot for 15 seconds. That is impossible right now. OK It's a deal. I'll start practicing tonight I need a little time. Bridget Thank you for your kind comment. Marge I am even happier to have you as my friend. Thank you for being there and for all of your encouragement. Your friendship means so much to me. *HUGS* Liz Tears (happy ones) formed in my eyes as I read your reply to my poem. I never thought I could be of inspiration to anyone. It just fills my heart with so much joy to know that I was able to help someone. You have no ideal how much that means to me. Thank you so much. BIG HUGS I send to you. |
