There are no few of you who know of me and of my schemes
For I do like to set my compass course just for a laugh
But once more just to prove that all is not the way it seems
This back end of a horse will try to fix a major gaffe

Oh , I know that you're thinking this is just another trick
That Doc's just having fun again and all at our expense
But not this time , I promise not to try anything slick
I merely wish to thank someone without any pretense

It's long past inappropriate I've not said this before
Though there are many on this site deserving of much praise
This being June and " ballad " month 'twould not do to ignore
The one whose works inspire me to mend my errant ways

His stories of the common man ring true that we might hear
Of woe and triumph that we share as one from time to time
And do so with a style that I've admired through the years
If I can't say that honestly my thoughts aren't worth a dime

That's it , no tricks , no jokes , no laughs , no cheap shots large or small
Sans more ado , thanks Balladeer , I think that says it all

This tribute to our Balladeer is surely not a gaffe,
Just read his "For The Common Man"; you'll find that says it all,
"Treblinka" makes you cry, the "Toerag Wars" will make you laugh,
The Balladeer, a poet who writes poetry for all.

Great job Doc, but uhhhh.... I think your meter is off with "anything" and "any", and I did count 15 syllables somewhere.   (Or am I pronouncing "aren't" the English way?)
Fix it Doc before Nan sees it.

Munda ,
Thanks , I just recently posted a piece in O.P. 14 that may help clear this up ( I'm pronouncing it  " arnt " and as with " any thing " rules can be bent . You do enjoy this don't you ? I for one , am grateful that it's so .

Oh no Doc... I'm NOT enjoying this...it's that new smiley forcing me to use it every time! Just like this one!
Which one in O.P. 14 Doc? Or do I have to go on a hunt?

Munda ,
After the last hunt , I think I'd better answer that . Meter Man (ia) . Best regards ,
Doc

OK Doc... I read your meter properly.. and I think your Balladeer tribute is very well deserved... You even used an a-b-a-b rhyme scheme - You only had to rhyme the "b's"... All righty then - I'm off to see the Meter Man...

Aw, Doc, your words are kind enough to bring me lots of tears
And burst five buttons off my vest with pride
For there is nothing finer than an honor from one's peers
To make one feel a rosy glow inside.

A writer's just a writer and, alone, not very much
If there is no one out there to write to
If someone ever tells me I have no poetic touch
I'll say there is a moose who says I do!

So thank you, my good doctor and that's what you really are
I must confess that I felt low today
But you have brought the medicine to put me over par
And chase those silly doldrums all away!!

Thank you, wonderful person

Dr. Moose,
This is a wonderful ballad and a well deserved tribute to our Balladeer. I'm certain none of our ballads will rise to his standards, but it is fun to try this new form and you did a terrific job. You get an A+

I echo the Moose!  Sir Balladeer... one of the best we have to offer here at PIP.  As for you Doc... I think you're right there at the top too!  Peace!

Nan ,
Thanks  "teach" . I can't seem to think of ballads without thinking of that guy ( I wonder why that is ? )
Doc

" Deer " ,
As one of the first poets whose works I've read since coming here , it just seemed an appropriate time to say that you do serve as an inspiration .
Doc

Marge ,
Thank you . You also are an inspiration . Both in your writings and in the way you always seem to find the time for a word of encouragement which keeps us all trying a little harder .
Doc

Elizabeth ,
Thank you . This is ( to my way of thinking ) some highly esteemed company that dropped by for this little story . As always your comments are much appreciated .
Doc

Drew ,
Ol' buddy ! I'm afraid once again I've been way too lax in the read & reply department .
Nice to here from you and thanks for the compliment .
Doc

Romy ,
Thank you . Sorry for the delay in replying .
I was away for ten days or so and am just trying to get caught up . See you in class .
Doc
