if i could see a soul

If I could see a soul,
What would it look like?
Might it be a deep hole?
Or maybe a mountain hike.

It may look like the sea,
Slapping at the sand.
Or it could be,
The sunlight in a band.

If I could hear a soul,
What would be its sound?
Would it be an empty toll,
A sound in ropes, bound?

Perhaps one of a soft rain,
Paltering on the street.
Or walking on a flowered lane,
Running with bare feet.

If I could touch a soul,
How would it feel?
As an overflowing bowl;
An enriching thought meal?

It might be like snow,
The touch so crisp and white.
It may be as the fawn of a doe,
Bathing in sunlight.

Like the moon, new,
Like the waves at sea,
Like an early dew,
This is the soul of me.
