California! Yeah! Okay, I'm done now

I: Us

In the sight of the land
stood upon a mound to overlook
A breeze to caress the soul
soft as silk: a breath, a laugh, a cry
Mingled with tears, the ground was blanketed
emerald blades that thrived upon joy, sorrow, life
O say nothing that you expected the same
in soothe, you did nothing
Nothing: not a word, wish or breath
wasted upon mine
O there might have been an us
there might have been at one time
In a past long forgotten, in a place we never met, in a memory never made
there might have been an us

II: Yours

I was your princess; you my knight
Could not a blade scorn such a maiden?
I was your bride; you my husband-to-be
Could not rain touch our wedding, all a-dreary?
I was you flower; you my sun
Could not a cloud pass through my eyes?
I was yours
Were you mine?

III: Do Not

Do not tell your children
that you understood
Do not taint their innocence
with the lies of us
Do not follow
me and mine
Do not allow
the whispers leak like tears
Do not veil from eyes
what is to be seen
Do not forget
the lessons you learned upon this
Do not make another feel
the feelings I now know from us
Do not remember this day
as you walk the alter with another

IV: Fire

Lightest touch, like water's kiss, fled
my own, my mind, my heart
Lover's kiss sparks the life
the feel, touch, caress I not yet known
O the fire you began inside me
the ache, pain, and joy you brought with a look
The language of bodies taught well
the price of the joining was not without its result
Flames dancing about: twisting, twirling, singing
chaos spreads but O the ecstasy of it all
Let the world bind the body
bind and loose
jest and fetter
soar and land
Souls screeching, breath caught
bearing no promise of memory on this starry night
As the flames close to but one
you breathe my name, locking me still
As the night drifts to be slaughtered
you breathe a rein to hold me bound by heart
As I slip into thoughtless reminisce
you tell me the key
You own me, body and soul, with but a word
echoing in mind and heart
The fire aches so as you embrace me closer
close to your heart, your touch, your heat
You give the reason for this fire
starting anew deep inside
But do you truly mean what you say?

Did you love me then as now?

V: Veil

Hiding, slipping, amiss, shadowed
deception, stifle, censor
Greater fool I was to believe
that I had been the One for being of another
Greater darkness I had lived
to not see the truth you had given me
Greater the love
you borne for another
Greater the stupidity I owned
to love you
The tiny tingles, the little smiles, the endless speech
I had not seen what I should have
I had lost you to another pair of arms not my own
and for that I pity you, me, us
The veil you cast was great
my love for you planned greater
Yet there was to be the tiny key you left unattended
err to be human
Signatures lettering my despair
thee had lain with another
Whirling, twisting, twirling,
I died a thousand deaths then
Still to be lost
given up on hope to confine, I released
You leave me be as the nightscape falls
curtaining me in darkness
hiding my defeat
shrouding my love away

Sometimes stars can only be seen in darkness

VI: Wish

I wish you
a heart
a love
a guilt
a redemption
a loyalty
I wish us
a chance
a choice
a love
a star
a memory
There to be another lain with you in bed now
I leave
There to be another name on your lips now
I forget
There to be a crossing for us now
I break
There to be a shooting star this night
I wish

VII: Flower

Blossoming from this lesson early learned
wise now from the truth
I know
Taking what I had left to take
I keep in place of us
to warn
The us was a beauty
a flower, lush in life
a star, special and glittering
a wine, intoxicating and sweet
a sun, warm and bright
The end was a sorrow
for flowers wilt
stars fade in morning's dawn
the glass falls empty
the warmth leaves as winter lives
And yet you say I was your flower
I am a beauty who you cherish
I was the soft heart to pick
On the night O so long ago
you asked and answered a question not lilted by voice
Now I return the favor as I stand
high, alone and lonely
As your flower I pity what you did not now
Did you not see that flowers, too, can cry?

VIII: Wait

In my heart
there sighs an empty place
In those sighs
there is an unspoken dream
In my dream
there is a shadow who sings of a future not alone
In that song
there is a wish
In my wish
I know a special heart
In that heart
I shall know the love I lost
In my love
I must wait
Wait for the one who would not scorn
Wait for that same sweet agony once more
Wait for strong arms to wrap around again
Wait for Aphrodite's wish to send me a lover
Wait for my heart to chose
Wait for the pain to ebb
I wait

In the sight of the land
stood upon a mound to overlook
A breeze to caress the soul
soft as silk: a breath, a laugh, a cry
Mingled with tears, the ground was blanketed
emerald blades that thrived upon joy, sorrow, life
To know the meaning of my song
that brings forth such light
I wait alone so as not to be alone
So I wait

WOW! What a wondeful compilation of poems. And all so well written and beautifully different and yet similar. Keep up the wondeful work!
