The way things were

People tried to warn me
they tried to give me clues
but I was so happy I barely noticed
barely noticed that my laughter would soon fade
that my days with you would end
it wasn’t until seconds before that I finally realized
then it all made sense
and you came up to me
while you told your friends you would only be a sec
then I looked into your eyes
but I couldn’t
I said, “Do I really want to hear this?”
I can’t even remember what you said to me
because my mind was trying to shut off
I was trying to forget what had just happened
or was about to happen
and I searched my brain for reasons why
you said something about being friends
but now we can see that that didn’t work out
then you gave me that look
that everything would be alright
kissed me ever so gently on the lips
and you turned and walked away
there was nothing I could say
I felt awful
but most of all I missed you

that was a really good poem! and i can relate to how you are feeling and that feeling sux ****! you captured that feeling very well with words

Well, blondie said it perfect. You really did capure to emotion with your words. Sometimes, the hardest writing to do is when you're truly inspired. There can be so many ways to say everything you feel and laying it out tha nicely is tough...great job.

i loved it. mostly because i have felt that way many times and never described it the way you did. that was great.

A broken bone can heal, but the wound a word opens can fester forever.
