Running Blindly

Been running blindly for so long.
Now I wonder, 'what was I running from?'.
Thought my goal was up ahead.
Just set my sights on the future is what I said.

Now the race is done, but did I really succeed?
I suppose I accomplished my worldly deed.
But as I sit alone, I finally see,
The past is where I want to be.

I missed so much along the way.
With my sights on the future, I forgot today.
So live each moment like it were your last,
'Cause before you know it, the future is past.

**I wrote this after one of my closest friends father's died.  It just made me realize that we push so hard to grow up, but in doing so we miss out on a lot of good things.  My friend's dad will never see her graduate or get married, or even go on her first date.  It is just unimaginable for me the pain she must experience every day.

A beautiful poem, and so true. We should all stop and see what great things we find on the road of life. "The greatest adventure is the journey".

Awwwww I really like that!!  It's a pretty poem, and you're really expressing what I try so hard to express: That life is so precious!!  Thanks for sharing that!

I totally agree with your belief, that life is precious and we all tend to take it for granted. I can relate to your friend's pain, my dad died too. And I do get sad thinking that he'll never get to see me graduate, go to prom, get married, have children. But I have learned to appreciate the things I do have. Great poem, by the way.

 It's another world
But it's something more than ordinary
Such a lovely day
And it's nothing more than ordinary living
That you're living
