*Another one of my translations, again it's a poem from Aleksander Pushkin.

Don’t covet goods of other beings
My Goodness, You’ve commanded so;
The limits of my will You know --
Am I to manage tender feelings?
I wish not to insult my friend,
His village I do not desire,
His finest steer I don’t admire,
I gaze at everything content:
His men, his house and his cattle,
I’m tempted not, though all is great.
But so it happens and his maid
Is beautiful... I’ve lost the battle!
And if by chance his lady’s pretty
And gifted with the angel’s skin
Forgive me Goodness for the sin
Of being envious and greedy
Who can command a heart like this?
Who is a slave to feeble effort?
Not love a person who is revered?--
Who can resist the heaven’s bliss?
I sigh from sadness and percieve,
But I must honor my conviction,
Aflraid to flatter heart’s ambition,
I’m silent... and in love I grieve.

"I will not whole die, my soul in sacred lyre,
will outlive my dust and will escape decay,
And in the moonlit sphere, my glory will not tire
As long as poets still remain" A. Pushkin

~Master~

You are a very intelligent teen! I'm glad that I come into the teen forum every once in a while to check out what teens have to say.  You are wise beyond your years.   Thanks for writing this poem and sharing it with us!  A very creative, unique and insightful piece!  An perfect translation.  The words you use and the flow is very advanced.  Usually this kind of poem isn't my cup of tea, but I am impressed.  I look forward to reading more poetry by you.  Keep up the excellent work!

Take care,
Melissa Honeybee

ESP, Thank you for replying!

Melissa, I'm one of those people who doesn't believe in the limits of age... At my age (16), I believe that a person can accomplish anything he or she wants. Thank you for responding, it's always good to hear what others have to say about you.

Anonymous, thank you for being honest! To tell you the truth, it's not one of my favorites from me either. LOL Thanks
