footsteps echo eerily in contrast with the dark grotesque shadows sway like midnight pantomimes against the pavement stark mocking winds carry prominent whispers which taunt, let thou not recognise nor hark companionship all but myself and the distance of a solitary dog's bark ears and eyes alert to every sound and flickering shape the silent tap of footsteps is amplified and multiply, the fear emblazoned on my face the darkened street lay perilous, forever stretching there be no escape my decisive thinking which overflows with fear may make the difference to my fate breathing quickens, the cold lonely night is emphasized by the cloud of mist that passes my lips the cold sweat that dampens my hands is sheathed by the sleeves of my coat, finding comfort in the curve of my hips my feet falter as a hurry my pace, confidence is at a loss and the fear i feel causes me to awkwardly trip the reality of the darkened street and the footsteps in which echo like my own wrap their spindly fingers around my throat and i can't escape the forceful grip a darting glance to what lay behind present my eyes with a moving shadow as menacing as an oncoming storm to what is to be of this faceless danger, is it of male and human form? i am now a part in a sick and twisted game, a game of vegeance and evil, for i am just the pawn but what else shall creep into my mind but pain, torment and death it's too early for me to die for i have been barely born not much further is the door, the vortex into which my security is felt and my destiny is mine in my pockets my hands fumble for the key to my lit world of halls and dorms, i am close enoough to read the signs anxiety makes my head throb in a desire to run and to be free from the mysterious dark in which i am bind instinct overpowers lessons taught of staying calm and i dash for door as the tears stream and at that moment my only friend is the solitary porch light and time once inside the tremors cannot be calmed or ceased nervousness is the underlying animal, insecurity and fear is the unrelentless beast wrapped in blankets i close my eyes, the wish of melting the image of the approaching shadow, wishing for a comforting dream at least all hope of dispelling the dark figure is lost, the fear enduced heart beats still reminders of the dependence that has been severely creased to wake to chaos and whispering gossip amplifies the senses news of a body found, bound, bruised, raped, talk of late night walks and consequences dark images reoccur in my head of the faceless shadow that stalked me, i had no such defences realisation that last night i was was walking, walking in the dark, now i stand so still and pensive forever i will be wondering if on that fateful night destiny had me in thought was it due to my decisive thinking or mt instinct that made me allure fate, had i unconciously fought? i remember the shadows and the echo of my footsteps, the darkness and that shadow that lived my mind contorts forever i will wonder was i the one who was to be delivered those intentions, was i the one they sought? i never thought i'd die alone, i laughed the loudest who'd have known? i traced the cord back to the wall, no wonder it was never plugged in at all i took my time, i hurried up the choice was mine i didn't think enough I'm too depressed to go on, you'll be sorry when i'm gone I never conquered, rarely came 16 just held such better days Days when i still felt alive, we couldn't wait to get outside The world was wide, too late to try The tour was over i'd survived I couldn't wait till i got home, to pass the time in my room alone I never thought i'd die alone, another six months I'll be unknown Give all my things to my friends, you'll never set foot in my room again You'll close it off, board it up Remember the time i spilled the cup Of apple juice in the hall, please tell mum this is not her fault I never conquered, rarely came But tomorrow holds such better days Days when i can still feel alive, when i can't wait to get outside The world was wide, the time goes by The tour is over, i've survived I can't wait till i get home, to pass the time in my room alone 'Adam's Song' Blink 182 |
